JOHN LEYS (Bass
Trombone)
The man who fills a vital role with the Big Band
Alumni
playing the bass trombone, the anchor of the trombone section. John has
been
and still is a highly respected studio musician, who “doubles” playing
the “low
brass” instruments like the tenor trombone, baritone horn and tuba. He
began
his band career playing in U.S. Navy bands before joining Buddy Rich
and then
Harry James, and finally with Les Brown with whom he was a regular for
years.
His television work includes gigs with the Johnny Carson version of the
Tonight
Show and later with Jay Leno. His studio work includes jobs for many
motion
pictures and on Broadway for “Phantom of the Opera,” “The King and I,”
and
“Fiddler on the Roof,” to name only a few.
