"HOTSY" KATZ
“Hotsy” started studying
trumpet when he was nine years old
and by the time he was in his teens was a regular with a well-known
Chicago
swing band that also featured one of the Big Band Alumni’s tenor sax
men, Ira
Schulman and the late, great jazz pianist, Lou Levy. Hotsy continued
his
studies in New York, St. Louis, and eventually in Europe where he
played from
1976 through 1980. He eventually left Chicago to join Charlie Ventura
in New
York. He went on to play with Hal McIntyre, Stan Kenton and Buddy Rich.
