LARRY
COVELLI (Tenor Sax, Clarinet)
Larry,
who leads his own jazz group, has been with the Big
Band Alumni as lead Tenor sax since it’s inception in 2000. He began
his
musical studies on piano in the fourth grade of elementary school,
switching to
sax in the seventh grade. He honed his talents during a four-year stint
with
the Navy, playing with a number of ship’s band. After his tour of duty,
Larry
joined a number of “name” bands, like Billy May, Woody Herman, Freddy
Martin,
Harry James, Chuck Mangione, and Louie Belson. Among the singers he has
backed
are Tony Bennett and Eddie Fisher.
